Well it’s happened; I have won an art award!! (Fishers Ghost Art Prize: Indigenous Award). It’s a good feeling, but I don’t particularly like the work. What makes it worse is they didn’t hang my work in the Open Prize. Rubbish!
But, I can now say I’m an award winner. Sounds alright!

your piece is a pretty complicated design beneath a simple glance. a good pick by the judges in opinion yet not having seen the other pices in this contest, not a winner.
its amazing how you are able to make your painting work seem so much like a print design.
keeping a positive mind about about your comps is something every artist should do i mean look at the obvious example of van gogh, his art was never reconised until he died.
the point is, its takes time.
planning to enter future comps is great to but you said that you feel just because your indigenous your expected to create indigenous work.
its a shame you feel that way, i think one thing that makes a good artist is there ability to have an oppened mind, cross the boundries sometimes and not care what others expect from them.
your most likely to recive more respect from those who discover you in the future that way.
there is always a meaning behined an artwork...that meaning can be presented in so many ways.
congratz for your first award and good luck with the telstra prize!
Congrats PJ.
